“Wow, I Did That!” — Stories from Glaze-Your-Own Pottery Sessions

Discovering the Joy of Creativity

One of my favorite parts of running Crisanthemum Studios is seeing the look on someone’s face when they pick up their finished glaze-your-own pottery. It’s usually followed by the same words: “Wow, I did that!”

Glaze-your-own sessions are about more than decorating pottery. They’re about discovering creativity, trying something new, and leaving with something that feels both personal and lasting. Whether you’re a first-timer or someone who’s been painting for years, there’s something magical about holding a finished piece and knowing it’s uniquely yours.

Stories from the Studio

I’ve watched kids light up when they see their bright, bubbly creations come out of the kiln. There’s nothing quite like the pride in their faces as they hold a cup or plate they decorated themselves. I’ve seen friends gather around a table, laughing and trading ideas while they paint mugs that turn into keepsakes of their time together.

And I’ve seen adults — many who walk in saying, “I’m not artistic at all” — leave with something they’re proud to use at home every day. For some, it’s the joy of trying something new. For others, it’s a reminder that creativity lives inside all of us, just waiting to be tapped.

Every Piece Tells a Story

The best part? Every piece is different — just like the people who make them. Some go bold with color, others create subtle designs, but each mug, plate, or ornament tells a story. It’s not about perfection. It’s about expression, joy, and connection.

A Fun, Accessible Experience for All

Our glaze-your-own sessions are designed to be fun, approachable, and accessible. You don’t need experience, and you don’t need to worry about getting it “right.” We provide the pottery, the tools, and the glazes — all you need to bring is yourself and a willingness to play.

The process is simple: choose your piece, choose your colors, and let your imagination take over. Once you’ve finished, we handle the firing, and a week or two later you come back to pick up your piece — transformed and ready for everyday use.

Your Invitation to Create

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m not creative”, glaze-your-own pottery is your chance to prove yourself wrong. Come with friends, bring your kids, or make it a solo self-care activity. The joy of holding something in your hands and saying, “Wow, I did that!” is something everyone deserves to experience.

Join us for a glaze-your-own session at Crisanthemum Studios — Wednesdays through Saturdays in downtown Pilot Mountain.
