On Motherhood, Creativity, and Coming Home to Ourselves

Hi friends,
This month, I’ve been thinking a lot about how motherhood and creativity are so deeply connected. Mother’s Day might be behind us, but the lessons and the love that come with it don’t disappear after a Sunday brunch or bouquet of flowers.
Before I ever touched clay, I was a mom. For a long time, that felt like my entire identity. I was “just a mom.” But somewhere along the way—after major surgery, therapy, and some really hard soul-searching—I found myself again. Or maybe, I met myself for the first time. And I met clay, too.
The name Crisanthemum is my love letter to that transformation: Cris and the mom. Not one or the other. Both.
When I’m in the studio, standing at the wheel with my hands in clay, I feel grounded. I feel whole. I feel like I’m creating more than just dishes—I’m creating a life that’s rooted in care, intention, and a little bit of magic. That, to me, is self-care. It’s not bubble baths and candles (though those are lovely too)—it’s giving myself space to create, to heal, and to show up for myself.
And I want that for you, too.
That’s why Crisanthemum Studios isn’t just about pottery. It’s about creating a space where people—moms, dads, kids, friends—can come and reconnect with themselves through art. Whether you’ve never touched clay before or you’re just looking for a moment of calm in a busy world, this space is for you.
Thanks for being part of this story. And if no one has told you lately—you’re doing a great job. Keep creating. Keep healing. Keep showing up.
With muddy hands and a full heart,
Cris
